Review

Art Hister, the author of Midlife Man (1998), had a life-changing
experience. When a plastic surgeon turned him down for liposuction
because he didn’t have enough muscle, Hister headed to the fitness
club where he got hooked on fitness. This conversational book is
designed to entice others to adopt a similarly healthy lifestyle. Dr.
Hister’s advice, which is supported by studies he cites in the book,
revolves around exercise, diet, meal portions, drinking wine, smoking,
getting plenty of sleep, and minimizing stress. Much of what Hister has
to say has been said before, but his engaging, relaxed style makes the
book difficult to put down.
