Review

Born in Canterbury, England, in 1977, Orlando Bloom officially began his
dramatic studies at the National Youth Theatre in London; he continued
his training at the British Academy of Dramatic Art and the prestigious
Guildhall School.

Following his recovery from an accident that had left him with a broken
back (and the distinct possibility of never walking again), Bloom began
to take a more serious and directed approach to his work. He burst onto
the Hollywood scene in 2001 via the Lord of the Rings trilogy and also
appeared in such major productions as Black Hawk Down, Pirates of the
Caribbean, and Kingdom of Heaven. The career of this classically trained
actor turned Hollywood heartthrob shows no signs of slowing down.

One of the flaws of this biography is Boer’s interpretation of
Bloom’s inner emotions, a technique that feels false and is
distracting. Boer does not capture an authentic voice for the actor and
should have simply worked from his source material without
interpolating.
