Review

The strength of this combination picture book–player commentary is the
superb colour action photography. The glossy, high-quality shots are
complemented by direct and easy-to-understand text presented in a
consistent two-page format for each player. Each two-page spread
contains numerous game photos, impressive graphics, and short stories
identifying the player’s career highlights.

The book is divided by player designation into seven sections, with a
concluding six-page feature on a dozen potential future stars. Leonetti
has chosen only those players considered appropriate for the specific
position. The first section, “Masked Marvels,” features 10 goalies,
from the experienced Eddie Balfour to the relative novice J.S. Giguere;
other sections vary from six to 17 entries. Defencemen are found in
“Rearguard” and “Blueline Attackers.” Forwards can be viewed in
“Play Makers,” “Snipers,” and “Power Forwards.” “The Hit
Men” combines both forwards (like Mike Peca and Ryan Smith) and
defencemen (like Scott Stevens and Derian Hatcher).

Although some may argue with a few of the choices, overall they should
please most hockey fans. Hockey Now! is recommended for its attractive
format and impressive visuals.
