Review

Reviewers of earlier collections by Vancouver poet Anne McKay have aptly
described her work as lyrical, sensual, magical. This latest collection
features nine previously published books, as well as two new titles,
“another country” and “sequence in haiku form.” McKay’s poems
sparkle with colorful images and musical harmonies. Consider this
excerpt from “still dancing”: “rarely now / the voice of the drum
/ ... the black plume / no longer singing / the arrow / in a green
wood.” Each line, each word is masterfully orchestrated. As McKay
herself has described it, her work is a “kind of singing.”
