Review

A Writer’s Garden combines the stunning colour photographs of MacKay
and Barrett with the prose of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the beloved author
whose novels (Anne of Green Gables, Emily of New Moon), stories, and
poetry teem with gorgeous descriptions of the people and landscapes of
Prince Edward Island. Montgomery’s writings are organized by season
into four sections. Each page is beautifully arranged with an excerpt
from Montgomery’s fictional and non-fictional writings, accompanied by
splendid photographs of plants and flowers. An engaging afterword
describes the development of book.

The book is a treasure both textually and visually. Anyone interested
in Montgomery’s work, and in PEI itself, will love what they find
here. One gains a strong impression of Montgomery as a regional writer,
and of the extraordinary beauty of the physical environment that
inspired her literary imagination. In short, A Writer’s Garden is a
pleasure to read and view.
