Poems of Reflection

Edward L. Edmonds is a professor of education at the University of
Prince Edward Island.

Only two poems in this collection are unequivocal successes:
“Solace,” a meditation worthy of inclusion in any anthology of
religious verse, and “Images.” Other poems are dragged down by
shopworn language and a wearying sameness of format. A lighter touch on
occasion, perhaps even a hint of the colloquial, would have helped to
alleviate the leadenness that pervades this collection. At least the
book’s simple layout and cover design are pleasing to the eye.
