Review

This fascinating book is aimed at anyone who is involved with
sustainable development and related policies. The authors propose a
global framework for sustainable production that integrates biological,
economic, and social aspects. Their multidisciplinary approach to
sustainable production encompasses economics, ecology, social
consideration, and policy development.

Each chapter contributes to a better understanding of the various
factors limiting Canada’s contribution to sustainable development.
Through examples such as the Model U and the ICT sector, the authors
explore some of the challenges facing the movement toward greater
sustainability. They also discuss the roles that public policy,
politics, and market opportunities can play in raising awareness and
moving the agenda forward. Comparisons with other countries highlight
some of the promising options that Canada could adopt.

As the authors demonstrate, Canada has lost its competitive advantage
in regard to sustainable development. Sustainable Production is a useful
starting point in reversing that unfortunate trend.
