Review

Aimed at the casual hiker, this book provides a good selection of day
hikes throughout southern Ontario and the Near North. Most of the trails
covered have been blazed and marked by local hiking groups, which allows
the emphasis of a hike to be placed on enjoying the area, not on
navigating the bush. The book is divided by region and covers the
Central, Eastern, Southwestern, Bruce–Georgian Bay, and Near North
regions. Descriptions of the prominent features are given for each
region, and numerous individual hikes are covered in detail. Each hike
includes directions and a thumbnail map.

Although not a substitute for the more specific trail guides produced
by local hiking associations, this book offers the casual hiker a good
sampling of some of the best day hikes in Ontario.
