Review

With the passing of time, the once-abundant genre of military badge
literature has faded almost out of existence. This fourth edition of
Tripp’s study therefore fills a huge gap.

World War II saw the rapid growth of Canadian regiments and corps, most
of which were reactivated from local militia status. New units were born
as well, either to cope with modern technologies of war or as local
recruiting ploys. At this late date, it must have been a challenge for
the author to find and photograph the complete range of World War II
badges.

Each badge is accompanied by a short record of service and battle
honors. Beside combat roles in Europe and the far East, mention is made
of short-lived units that were born of need, then later quietly
disbanded. This could be a useful reference book for anyone interested
in the components of Canada’s army during World War II.
