Review
As stated on the cover, The Power of the Gift is a “modern parable
about relationships and accountability.” It is also a self-help book
written as a novel.
The main characters, Peter and Patrick, are guided through life by
their guru, Mr. Xavier. The story follows their routines,
self-evaluations, behaviors, and transformations. These characters
exemplify how certain changes can transform a humdrum life into
meaningful one, as we see them applying to their lives the insights of
Mr. Xavier. The book’s maxim—live life to the fullest—is a
deceptively simple one. The difficulty lies in acting on this knowledge.
Because the goal is a never-ending one, this is a book to return to time
and again.
