Review

In this second mystery featuring Matteesie Kitologitak, an Inuit RCMP
inspector, Kitologitak is sent to a remote Arctic community to
investigate a double murder. There he discovers that the old Inuit woman
hurt during the murder is his mother. It takes all of Kitologitak’s
investigative skills, combined with his knowledge of the Arctic, its
peoples, and their customs to solve the mystery.

Although the descriptions of the culture, history, and lifestyles of
the people of the Far North tend to overwhelm the mystery itself, the
story nevertheless contains all the elements of a good mystery: a crime,
an interesting and believable sleuth, false trails, the emotional rise
and fall of the investigation, a good supporting cast, and a satisfying
ending.
