Review

This book about Montreal is divided into eight chapters: History,
Geography and Climate, Industry and Transportation, Trade and Commerce,
Neighbourhoods, Education, Culture and Lifestyle, and Landmarks and
Special Places. Though written in English, the book is obviously written
from a French-Canadian point of view. Only passing and (sometimes
grudging) reference is made to the contributions of the English, Irish,
and Scots to the history and development of the city, particularly to
its trade and commerce. The first four chapters are basic histories of
their subject titles. The second four are presented in a more informal,
almost tourist-guide, fashion. Enhanced by black-and-white photos,
Montreal Inside Out makes interesting reading.
