Review

The authors begin this financial planning guide by citing a U.S.
government statistic on the predicted financial futures (at age 65) of
100 people who are working and aged 25 today: “After accounting for
those who will be deceased, the remaining five persons who will enjoy a
reasonable retirement lifestyle represent 8% of those who will live to
see age 65.”

Risk-Free Retirement may not provide the definitive means of escaping a
poverty-filled retirement, but it is packed with suggestions for the
individual willing to tackle the issue head on. Beginning with the
formulation of a financial goal, the book takes the reader through the
financial planning process, examining along the way investments,
employee benefits, real estate, health, and, of course, tax planning.
The chapters on wills (only about one in three adults have them) are a
must read.

This sensible, jargon-free, and clearly organized book serves up a
coherent approach to managing the affairs of our working years so that
we can reap the benefit in the years that follow.
