Review

This seventh edition of the Deloitte & Touche publication focuses on the
nitty-gritty of personal financial management. Assembling and organizing
records, conducting periodic net worth checkups, and many useful
financial planning forms and hints are included in the annually updated
guide. Perhaps one of the most useful ideas it promotes is that of
planning around the calendar year. To help the consumer along, the Guide
includes an annual financial checkup—a systematic updating of one’s
financial affairs incrementally laid out over the calendar year. Another
chapter in the book covers insurance; as you would expect from a book of
this calibre, it goes beyond describing the types available and their
suitability, and provides advice about selecting an insurance company
and an agent.

The authors estimate that by working through all the forms in the
personal financial planner section, you will save somewhere between
$2000 and $3000 in professional fees! For those wanting to take control
of their financial destiny, this publication is not just a bargain; it
is an indispensable tool.
