Review
This atlas is a visual delight and cornucopia of information. The color
maps and illustrations are excellent, and statistical information for
Canada usually incorporates the latest 1991 Census of Canada figures.
International comparative statistics, however, are (unavoidably)
frequently much more dated. Various themes are presented nationally,
while primary economic and geographic data are profiled for each
province. The numerous recent changes in names and political divisions
in various parts of the world have been incorporated into this volume.
Maps of the world’s major urban centres indicate expressways,
railways, airports, land-use patterns, and physical features. Areas
subject to earthquakes, volcanoes, storms, floods, drought,
deforestation, oil spills, and greenhouse-gases build-up are mapped.
Quality-of-life factors, such as life expectancy, medical care,
education, and proper nutrition are represented in graphs and maps. Of
special interest is the economic information on the rapidly growing
trade between Canada and Pacific-rim countries. Seventy-five statistical
series (primarily Canadian in content) are included. A detailed table of
contents and separate geographic indexes for Canada and the world make
it easy to locate the desired information.
