Review

This accessible and well-organized guide to the official doctrine and
position of the United Church of Canada concerning theological, social,
and political matters is a must for clergy and involved lay members.
Chambers uses language that is direct and articulate. His book is
enhanced by brief histories of particular policies and a directory of
U.C.C. resources and institutions.

The only trouble with this fine work is its limited audience. While an
absolute necessity to professionals within the U.C.C., or to other
ecumenically minded professionals, it is somewhat restricted in its
subject. But its virtues of clarity and precision more than make up for
its somewhat narrow scope.

Chambers is to be commended for destroying, once and for all, the myth
that the United Church believes in everything and anything.
