Review

This novel about the experiences of the Royal Canadian Air Force Bombers
during World War II comes across as a fictionalization of actual events.
There is a curious flatness to the characters, who seem not so much
created as reported. Everett nevertheless succeeds in conveying the feel
of day-to-day life on a wartime air station. His portrayal of the
Canadian airmen is affectionate but clear-eyed. It is disconcerting to
see a photograph of a Blenheim aircraft on the front cover of a book
mainly about Halifax bombers.
