Review

The author, a former member of the provincial legislature of British
Columbia and also a former B.C. Minister of Agriculture, was most
recently a member of the British Columbia Forest Resources Commission.
His book, a personal account of his views on the importance of forests,
deals primarily with conditions in British Columbia. Its 14 chapters
range from a brief history of the timber industry in British Columbia to
the economic importance of forests to the province. Although one chapter
is devoted to brief descriptions of forestry in many other countries,
virtually no mention is made of forestry in other Canadian provinces.
The book thus has very limited applicability for readers outside of
British Columbia.
