Review
This latest—indeed fifth—index of the Canadian Historical Review
includes various categories of publications, particularly articles
(indexed by author and subject) and book reviews (indexed by author and
book title). It also includes archives notes, annual announcements of
the journal’s prize, editorials, information on historians in Canada,
letters to editors, obituaries, recent Canadian history publications
published in Canada, and a “miscellaneous” section. There is no list
of reviewers, and no index of the index—which would have provided new
insight into the profession’s vast reviewing capacities.
Students wishing to survey recent Canadian historiography can use this
index as a guide and reference. Working scholars in the field, however,
will find it an invaluable guide. The index maintains the high standards
of scholarship for which the journal is internationally famous and is
highly recommended. (Incidentally, the volume numbers on the front of
the book’s case do not correspond to those on the title page, the
latter being correct.)
