Review

Nature B.C. is designed for the novice naturalist, and is particularly
suited for the tourist who wants an overview of the rich wildlife of
beautiful British Columbia. Its simple illustrations help one identify
340 species of British Columbian mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians,
fish, shorelife, plants, and trees. Although some of the bird and mammal
illustrations are lacking quality and detail, most of the other drawings
are adequate. The book’s compact size and softcover format will make
it a popular companion on hiking or camping expeditions.

A useful addition to the book is the section on British Columbian
geology and geography, which includes an appendix on popular British
Columbia wildlife viewing areas. New naturalists are always keen to ask
where they should begin their studies, so this section should be of
help. The book as a whole may serve admirably for those in search of a
general reference guide.
