Review

The author of this collection of haiku (a Japanese verse form consisting
of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables, respectively) sees
writing as a cure of time. She paints with soft and precise touches and
great sensitivity to sounds and sights. Her images are those of longing
and concentration, of a journey within.

Villeneuve’s environmental concerns translate into reflections on
trees that grow in shopping malls and others that are being chopped
down. Spring is a time of flowers and of taxes, summer has a fly crawl
over tomorrow’s calendar. Autumn is the perfect time to write, whereas
winter brings immobility as well as warm homes in which we watch
television.

The poems are presented on carefully designed pages of beautiful paper.
The striking cover—a painting of marigolds in snow—is the work of
Peter Schwarz.

Marigolds in Snow will make a delightful—and thoughtful—gift for
those who sense the essence of our time.
