Review

This is a very practical, well-edited selection of 40 audition pieces
from Canadian plays published in the last 10 years. The scenes, divided
into female and male character roles, range from 55 seconds to two
minutes and 45 seconds in length. Each selection has been provided with
first-production and publication information, a biography of its author,
and a brief but incisive suggestion of how the scene can be interpreted.
The introduction by the editors gives sound advice about how to prepare
for the audition process. This book fulfils a real need for students and
actors looking for audition material. It also provides an entertaining
overview of many of the best Canadian plays produced in the last decade.
