Review

Like so many other cookbooks, Simply Delicious deals with the basics and
contains too many desserts. It also includes breads, snacks, lunches,
cocktail appetizers and party stuff, soups, salads, vegetables, and main
dishes. The 200 recipes reflect a strong Ukrainian influence.

As does the index. Bierochs, which are cabbage-filled buns, are indexed
under “B,” not “cabbage,” which presupposes that the reader
knows Ukrainian, or at least the fact that this book also covers
Ukrainian specialties. Pork risotto is included, though as given here it
is not a risotto but a pilaf.

Indexing is by recipe title and course, and not (as noted above)
necessarily by ingredient. Roast Turkey is under “R” but not
“T,” and Pork Risotto is not listed under “Rice.” The book is
spiral-bound and has color photographs.
