Review
As every reviewer will know, it is a rare treat to come across a volume
that discusses a dry topic in a readable and enjoyable manner.
Thankfully, the authors have provided us with just such a book.
Make no mistake: Religious Studies in Ontario is utterly thorough in
its research and presentation. As an examination and evaluation of the
academic study of religion in the various institutions across Ontario,
it will prove invaluable to professionals in the fields of theology and
secular religious studies. Administrators will welcome it with open
arms.
The topic itself, though excellently discussed in terms of
administration, faculty, students, and publication potential, is perhaps
too restricted for the casual reader of religious literature. Its style
of writing, however, is surprisingly readable, entirely candid in its
perceptions, and at times borderline entertaining. Remus’s
contribution is particularly good.
As an introduction to the systematic study of religion in Ontario, this
book succeeds admirably. It is a must for every university administrator
with a stake in this particular field.
