Review

This is a must-have for Trisha Romance fans. More than 100 colored
plates of her paintings (plus working sketches) are included, and, as
most are full page, the effect is almost as good as possessing the
originals themselves. The plates span the artist’s career from the
early 1970s, when she was starting out commercially, until 1991, thus
enabling the reader to trace her growth and development.

There are two introductions. The first provides biographical details
about the artist, explains the sources of her inspiration, and compares
plates to indicate development and shift of emphasis and focus through
the years. The other introduction, by Romance herself, conveys valuable
first-hand information about her technique, her work patterns, and the
sources of her creativity. This personal information allows us direct
access to the artist’s thoughts and beliefs about art and life in
general, and is a valuable addition to the book. Romance’s intense
love for family and home is vividly conveyed by her own words. Personal
photographs embellish the text. A postscript by a Toronto writer and
editor includes more family photographs and concentrates on the
artist’s home life, thus completing this comprehensive tribute to
Trisha Romance.
