Review
This succinct book offers a view of Canada’s linguistic scene that
will not please those who espouse official bilingualism.
Census results suggest that Canadians support a bilingual policy. This
is at best a superficial consequence of this costly policy. The fact is,
those who claim to be bilingual may have dubious competency in the
second language. Practical linguistic needs have polarized English- and
French-speaking areas within Canada—one of the grim realities
highlighted in this useful book.
