Review

This ambitious guidebook tackles each Canadian province and territory
chapter by chapter. Color photographs taken by prominent Canadian
photographers brighten every page. The size and heft of the book would
not bother car travelers, but backpackers would find it heavy.

Explore Canada highlights such must-sees as Clayoquot Sound, Whistler,
Garibaldi National Park, and Glacier National Park in British Columbia;
Crowsnest Pass and Maligne Valley in Alberta; the Cypress Hills and
Athabaska Sand Dunes in Saskatchewan; Nahanni National Park Reserve in
the Northwest Territories; Ellesmere Island National Park in Nunavut;
and the exciting trails in Yukon’s Ivvavik National Park and Kluane
National Park.

Each chapter has a “When You Go” box that contains useful
addresses, telephone and fax numbers to call for information, suggested
guidebooks, and recommended reading.

The book’s well-written but relatively brief text covers both the
special features of and basic information about each place. Superb
photographs allow Explore Canada to double as a coffee-table book.

Marion Harrison, an avid outdoor enthusiast, was editor of Explore
Magazine from 1988 to 1998. Peter Thompson is a world traveler and the
publisher of Explore Magazine.
