Review

The Driver’s Guide series of travel books is designed to make it easy
for the motorist to plan trips and to travel with peace of mind. British
Columbia Adventures, like all the guides, is divided into three main
sections. The first section contains 30 strip maps and highway logs as
well as ferry routes and schedules. The highway log pages are meant to
be read at the start of a day’s journey and while on the road.
Although the emphasis is on the major routes, the author has included
side trips and alternate routes to the main highways.

The second section contains information on cities and towns within
seven geographic regions. It includes information on lodgings, things to
do in each place, and brief historical information. The author lists
hotels, motels, inns, lodges, private and public campgrounds, and RV
parks. Restaurants are reviewed, as are places to stop for gas and food.
The third section lists the author’s favorite vacation trips,
getaways, inns, restaurants, and parks.

This is a compact, useful book for thoughtful trip planning. The
highway logs answer, kilometre by kilometre, the traveler’s thirst for
instant information. The information is of necessity brief and some will
be out of date, but that should not deter purchase.

Bridges is well qualified to write this guide. He lives in Vancouver,
and is a writer, broadcaster, and enthusiastic traveler.
