Review

In the foreword, pioneer Roy Bagley calls this book “the five W’s of
this magnificent land known as Alberta.” This describes Alberta Trivia
accurately, as Blake thoroughly answers the questions of “who,”
“what,” “where,” “when,” and “why” regarding the
province. Eighteen chapters deal with almost every imaginable aspect of
Alberta, including its history, politics, weather, sports, place names,
tourist attractions, and entertainment, among others. Some examples of
trivia appear more “trivial” than others: for example, we learn that
as of 1991, there were 1400 dentists in Alberta, but more lengthy and
notable inclusions abound as well. Interesting accounts of how and by
whom certain areas of the province were settled fall into this category.
Many pictures accompany each chapter, adding to the book’s appeal.

Alberta Trivia is a fascinating and enlightening book, and would be an
appropriate gift for a native Albertan or anyone else particularly
curious about the province.
