Review

These two books are invaluable guides to the often confusing world of
RRSPs and mutual funds. In them, Gordon Pape systematically sorts out
the confusing array of investment vehicles, and clearly presents the
information investors need to make informed decisions. Though he uses
language that is, for the most part, accessible to the layperson, he has
included in each book a list of definitions to help the reader with
industry jargon that may be unfamiliar.

These books are updated annually, and so the information in them is
fairly current. For instance, the mutual fund guide discusses the new
Labor-sponsored funds, while the RRSP guide addresses recent changes in
RRIF rules. Both guides contain the author’s rating of various funds,
and make recommendations as to asset mix and the best investment given
the current economic situation.

In these guides, Pape combines prudent advice with well-organized,
accurate, and readable information. I highly recommend them.
