Review
This small-format book is another title in Whitecap’s highly
successful Little Gift Book series. The book serves both as a pictorial
introduction to the Canadian Rockies and as a handy souvenir of the area
(the latter tourist-oriented market goal is indicated by the book’s
availability in German and Japanese).
By adhering to the straightforward formula of previous titles in the
series—namely, superb photographs with clear captions, simple
organization, text kept to a minimum, focus on major attractions—Jones
virtually ensures success for this entry as well.
Spectacular photographs convey the splendor of the Rockies, while
separate sections cover all of the major areas: Banff, Yoho, Kootenay,
the Icefields Parkway (“one of the world’s most stunning scenic
drives”), and the Jasper area. The photographs are uniformly
outstanding, presenting a dazzling visual overview of the whole region.
Readers with an interest in the natural beauty of our Rockies will find
this moderately priced book a welcome addition to their libraries.
