Review

This is a solid, plodding “as-told-to” sports autobiography yielding
few surprises. Ridgway’s career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders
spanned 13 years, from 1982 to 1994. He is the CFL record holder for
field-goal accuracy (a remarkable 79%) and holds or shares nine other
league records. His name is almost as identifiable with the Roughies as
Ron Lancaster’s and George Reed’s. Although the clichés are many,
the kudos frequent, and the writing pedestrian, there

are interesting intersections where football and real life meet—where
children are born, other jobs are pursued, and feelings described.
Recommended for public and secondary-school libraries.
