Review

This book, by a professor of Native Studies at the University of
Lethbridge, is a description and analysis of this Algonkian language
spoken by thousands of people in Alberta and Montana. It is a companion
volume to the Blackfoot Dictionary that was published in 1989 by Frant
in collaboration with Norma Jean Russell. The first few chapters of the
Grammar, which can be read by lay persons, also provide a basis for the
more intensive and technical chapters that follow. A list of references
and an index are included, along with an appendix on verb paradigms and
one on phonological rules.
