Review

It is easy to see why this book is into its second edition. It is
refreshing, in a field where volumes of pretentious language about
policies geared to multinational corporations appear regularly. The
language is clear, the advice practical, and the presentation designed
for quick reference.

Small businesses are responsible for the creation of many new jobs,
especially in today’s economic slump. They bring vitality to the
community and innovation to the marketplace. The people who run them
rarely have access to personnel experts, but they are encompassed by the
regulations and legislative requirements that govern today’s
workplace. It is vital that they choose and keep good staff.

This book will help them do that. The chapters on interviewing
techniques and on avoiding legal liability are especially good. Anyone
who has to interview other people for any purpose—even experienced
human resources staff—would benefit from reading them.
