Review
This book—by David Lai, of the University of Victoria—is valuable
from three different perspectives: it is an in-depth study of a
community; it contributes to an understanding of the history of Chinese
immigration in Canada; and it offers a good, intellectual guide to the
culture of Victoria’s Chinatown. The volume is easy to read,
interesting, and even exciting.
