Review

Asleep in the Fast Lane is a veritable encyclopedia of research and
development in sleep disorders. Dotto, a former science staff writer for
a major Canadian newspaper, has made an exhaustive collection of the
current data on sleep derived from many international luminaries in the
field.

Some of the topics Dotto explores are sleep requirements, the various
types of insomnia, naps, jet lag, and shift work.

There are two basic problems with this text. First, its organization is
confusing: many of the subjects seem to overlap in an explicable way.
Second, the work is so exhaustive that it is nearly impossible to read
sequentially. I found that it kept putting me to sleep.

Despite these criticisms, Dotto has provided a resource book that could
prove valuable when specific issues need to be explored.
