Review
Once more, Colombo has turned his attention to the paranormal, this time
focusing on “UFO” phenomena. Colombo, one of Canada’s chief
compilers of occult and mysterious events, presents 60 personal accounts
of sightings and encounters with unidentified flying objects from across
the nation.
Colombo’s preface is surprisingly good: informative, unbiased, and
altogether rational. Serious students of the UFO genre will appreciate
it. The accounts themselves (alas!) do not share this same quality. As a
whole, the 60 eyewitness accounts become unconvincing. Some, such as the
abductees’ testimonies, come across as being incredible—to say the
least! However, it is always wise to remember that people have been hung
or acquitted on far less.
To its credit, UFOs Over Canada does not claim to answer, once and for
all, the question of the evidence for flying saucers and
extraterrestrials. But it does endeavor to keep Canadian minds open to
the possibility of such things. In this more commendable endeavor, it
ultimately succeeds.
