Review

Changes for small business since the 1985 edition of this concise and
useful reference-information source are reflected in this second
edition, which includes a new section on franchising. The marketing and
computerization sections have been wholly rewritten, and the book has
been updated to explain changes in laws, programs, and the like.

An annotated bibliography lists the most useful, as well as
comprehensible, small business information sources.

Also featured is a do-it-yourself information guide arranged by topic
(e.g., how to find information on another company; sources that can be
used to do market research without conducting a door-to-door survey;
where statistics can be found on a business sector, and so on).

Another section suggests some useful books and magazines that can be
purchased by a small business for its own reference library or
information centre. Throughout the book there is extensive
cross-referencing to The Canadian Small Business Guide (available from
the same publisher), which is a monthly loose-leaf reporting service
that comments on a wide range of topics of interest to small business.

The author, who has written many articles on small business and
management, is to be commended for providing relevant information in a
concise and jargon-free manner.
