Review

With the rising values of militaria in general and badges in particular,
this catalogue will be well thumbed by collectors, dealers, and
individual owners alike. Charlton, the established authority in the
field, has produced a virtual Bible of badge identification and pricing.

Brief descriptions of each unit’s service are accompanied by
illustrations of the badges discussed. There is much arcane detail
given—mechanics of badge authorization, variations in metals,
differences in the designs of badges for officers and for those of other
ranks, names of manufacturers, oddities in patterns, and collar
lugs—which helps to quickly identify and evaluate badges. The pricing
tables are amazingly thorough, providing guidance for buyers, sellers,
and hobbyists. Recommended as a vital reference work on the increasingly
rare badges of Canadian regiments in the Great War, 1914–1918.
