Review

This useful book, now in its tenth edition, is based on the problems the
author faced when he retired from the successful chemical business he
had founded and built. Hunnisett writes that the careful planning he
details can make your retirement satisfying and financially stable. His
advice for preretirement is that you should determine whether you can
afford to live a life satisfactory to you and your spouse; whether you
can use your time enjoyably; whether you can accept actual retirement;
whether your plans include the wishes, interests, and welfare of your
spouse; and whether you should stay in your present home or move
elsewhere. Many other aspects of retirement are discussed, from the
psychological reaction you have when you give up your career to your
health at that time. Appendices include a checklist for retiring, an
outline of health care in Canada, and examples of Canadian volunteer
centres. Also provided are samples of expense factors, and tables
concerning pension and annuity benefits as well as life expectancy.
