Review

This is an excellent guide for the prairie gardener who wants to know
about growing and using herbs. The drawings illustrating each herb are a
wonderful asset. Because of the encyclopedic format, readers can switch
from chapter to chapter looking for comparative material—for example
“growing tips”—and find it easily. The author has a delightful
sense of humor. For the environmentally conscious, there are tips on
natural insect repellents in the garden. Maps on gardening zones are
also informative.

Overall, the author writes in a good conversational style, telling
readers about what he knows and likes, and injecting stories from his
own life. This is a motivating, fun, and easy-to-understand book.
