Review

The author is a well-known businessman in the horticultural industry,
who has been active as a newspaper columnist and as a television and
radio broadcaster on the topic of gardening. The sections on landscaping
with flowers, trees, and shrubs that constitute the bulk of this book
are beautifully illustrated in color. The section on vegetables and bush
fruits is quite limited. Climate-zone maps for Canada are included and
there are appendices with information on tools, as well as on weeds and
pests and methods for their control. There is also a useful index.

A Greener Thumb: The Complete Guide to Gardening in Canada is
essentially a coffee-table book. Although considerable useful
information is provided, it is not (as the subtitle suggests) a
comprehensive guide to gardening, especially with regard to vegetables.
