Review

A Knife, a Rope, a Book is a collection of short poems that deal with
mortality, human relationships, sexual experiences, and death. Readers
of “In This City” feel this Toronto’s writer’s recollections and
comparisons of a prairie childhood as the poet rides the city subway. In
“Photosequence,” Rowley writes capsule comments of memories,
emotions, and insight caught by the camera lens.

This is Rowley’s first book. She has written passionately and with
perceptive detail of human emotions. Her poetry offers intensely
personal, spare, physical social commentary on relationships in modern
society.
