Review

This new edition covers the period from before Canada became a nation to
the present day. It is arranged chronologically by author’s birthdate.
For each author, a short biographical sketch mentions awards won and
discusses the author’s work in general and its relationship to
Canadian literature as a whole. This revised edition omits some authors
that were in the earlier edition, while adding others; schools and
libraries should therefore not discard their earlier editions.

The Anthology gives an excellent overview of Canadian literature from
its beginnings to today. Some of its well-known contributors include
John Newlove, Patrick Lane, Sandra Birdsell, Michael Ondaatje, Lorna
Crozier, and Mary Di Michele.

While this anthology is a natural purchase for schools and libraries,
it is also recommended for people who would like to learn about Canadian
literature.
