Black Rose has again put together a collection of anarchist essays on a
wide variety of topics.

There are two essays on anarchism and the French Revolution. In the
first—a reprint of his introduction to Kropotkin’s The Great French
Revolution—George Woodcock discusses the strengths and weaknesses of
Kropotkin’s analysis of the French Revolution. In the second essay,
Brian Morris examines liberation movements in the French Revolution.

There are four essays on countries under “communist” rule that are
attempting or making a transition. In one of these, some very useful
people’s-democracy-movement-of-Tiananmen-Square documents are
reprinted. The other three focus on the Soviet Union, Poland, and East
Germany—the reforms currently taking place in these countries offer
opportunities for libertarian socialist movements.

Other essays focus on the social ecology movement and conservatism,
science and anarchism, and feminism and anarchism. According to the
introduction, these essays were reprinted from Our Generation, Vol. 21,
Nos. 1 and 2, 1989, in order to give them a wider readership.
