Review

There will be a warm welcome for this book, which is as Island-spun as
they come. It features the first-prize winners of the Prince Edward
Island literary awards from 1988 to 2002, under the prestigious
categories Milton Acorn Poetry, Carl Sentner Memorial Short Story, L.M.
Montgomery Literature for Children, and Millennium Poetry. To
particularize among them would be a work of supererogation. The two
experienced editors—Hugh MacDonald is an award-winning poet from
Brudenell, P.E.I., and Alice Anna Reese is a children’s writer from
Charlottetown—have been consummately wise in their choices, which run
the whole gamut of human emotion. Good humor is there, as is pathos; in
other words, there is something for everyone. The editors also include a
note on each contributor. In short, then, here is a bedside book for
readers to enjoy, but Island writers and would-be writers will find it
especially inspiring.
