Review

The television show Roswell had the unique distinction of being saved
from cancellation due to mass mailings of Tabasco sauce. As nearly
everyone describes it, Roswell is “a show about teenage alienation.
Literally.” Set in modern-day Roswell, New Mexico, it features three
“teenage/human hybrids” (the descendants of the 1947 Roswell crash
victims) who struggle to keep their identity secret while fighting the
everyday battles all high-school kids confront.

Crash into Me includes chapters on the 1947 Roswell incident, the stars
of the show, and the show’s devoted online fan base, which raised over
$250,000 U.S. for charity. Other chapters include “The Roswell Quiz”
and “The Roswell Chicken Jokes,” which began life on an online fan
forum. Burnett’s highly subjective episode guide occupies almost half
of the book. Diehard Roswell fans and those with an interest in the fan
phenomenon will find much to ponder here.
