Review

Sue Johanson is the host of The Sunday Night Sex Show, a call-in show
that provides viewers with frank, funny, down-home advice about sex.
R.J. Gulliver, who happens to direct that program, tells us how
Johanson, a registered nurse, became the queen of “talk sex” and the
proud recipient of the Order of Canada for a lifetime of public service.
He also offers a detailed account of the day-to-day operations of The
Sunday Night Sex Show. Among other things, we learn about the
camaraderie that exists on the show, about the hazards of live
television, and about the difficulties of finding crew or
production-team members willing to test the “toys” from the Pleasure
Chest. Gulliver’s amusing and informative book never degenerates into
bad taste. Ultimately, it is a tribute to Johanson, to her lifelong
mission to make sex education accessible, and to the people who help her
do just that.
